Reese Witherspoon Doesn’t Look Like Reese Witherspoon on InStyle’s December 2021/January 2022 Covers

This time of year glamour is always a good idea. British Vogue‘s Edward Enninful clearly got the memo. Obviously, InStyle also heard us loud and clear. Joining Regina King, Jennifer Lopez, Andra Day, Jennifer Aniston and Zendaya as this year’s cover stars, Reese Witherspoon is back two years after her last appearance. For the December 2021/January 2022 newsstand cover (below), the American actress, producer and entrepreneur is decked out in Dolce & Gabbana courtesy of Julia von Boehm before the lens of Emma Summerton. Meanwhile for the subscribers’ alternative (after the jump), Reese wears head-to-toe Chanel.

According to our forum members, however, something wasn’t quite right. “Unrecognizable,” declared oaklee91.

“The makeup and/or retouching on her face is so bad, this looks like an outtake,” KINGofVERSAILLES chimed in.

“They retouched her to make her look like her daughter Ava. That’s crazy,” added gunsnroses.

“I genuinely thought this was her daughter,” echoed ReneSanchez.

“I can’t even tell it’s her… Awful,” stated charles01.

“Why did they change her bone structure?” asked kokobombon. “Both covers are terrible, Photoshop disaster aside.”

“More often than not, Reese Witherspoon photographs like an absolute dream — a prime example being InStyle‘s December 2016 cover by Thomas Whiteside. The blatant use of Photoshop doesn’t offend me, but the bombshell styling just feels like a gimmick,” critiqued vogue28.

Benn98 wasn’t feeling the styling, either. “Oh God, no thanks to the budget Sofía Vergara! Or is it budget Brigitte Bardot? Either way, it’s tiring and needs to stop. Do women even connect with this generic shtick?”
