Spring is a good time for jumpsuits. See Anne Patchett, Sarah Jessica Parker and yours truly, wearing army green all-in-ones. We are all in our late 50s. We are Generation Jumpsuit.
Recently, someone asked me if my style has changed as I’ve got older. Erm, not really. There are items of clothing – jumpsuits, jeans and trainers – that I’ve been wearing for 40 years. This Bliss & Mischief jumpsuit isn’t quite that old but it’s been with me for a while.
And, ever since lockdown, I’ve taken to hanging three of my favourite boiler suits from the hooks on the back of my bedroom door. Making it even easier to pull-on-and-go. Or Work From Home. Often I wear a chic onesie around the house, instead of a dressing gown or house coat.
More function, less faffage. Style made simple.
When it comes to specifics, I prefer my jumpsuits plain with plenty of pockets and a little bit of slouch (having a long body, I usually have to go big to get the right length). Military-inspired designs are available at Alex Mills (reduced/ belted version HERE), Mango and Levi’s. If you’re looking for a livelier all-in-one, check out Wild Clouds made in sunny South London, using organic fabrics (see below), another sustainable brand to look out for is Seventy + Mochi, and I’m also a fan of LF Markey.
Larger sizes can be found at Lucy & Yak, Joanie, Good American and Fat Face. For petite styles, try: J.Crew, M&S, Phase Eight and Next. There’s a jumpsuit for everyone.

I’ve said it before but it’s worth repeating…I believe, with a jumpsuit, the time saved getting dressed in the morning balances out the extra time spent in the loo. And if you’re worried about the soggy drop, go for a short sleeve.
