How good is Lesley Manville? With a career spanning over four decades, the 67-year-old actor is unstoppable right now. I loved her in the magnificent sitcom Mum, she is brilliant in the films Phantom Thread and Mrs Harris Goes To Paris, and I’m enjoying the latest BBC whodunit Magpie Murders. In a recent interview with the Guardian, she talks about her acting career, age, life and being single.
The online feature leads with the clickbait-y latter, which I find frustrating, as I’m more interested in Manville’s flourishing career than her love life. The hyper link even includes her ex-husband Gary Oldman’s name. Tsk…That was nearly 35 years ago. Hardly news.
And yet, she appeared on the front cover of the Guardian magazine with the headline ‘Top of her game: Why Lesley Manville is owning it like never before.’ That’s more like it. I bet this little transgression has registered on Manville’s ‘bullshitometer’.
Cool styling, though…
On being a feminist in Hollywood, Lesley Manville says:
‘You need to keep fighting. It’s been a slow battle over hundreds of years for women to get where they are today. It’s unbelievable how far we still have to go.’
