I may be 3,000 miles away in a different time zone but I can still enjoy Salon 94’s Niki de Saint Phalle Joy Revolution exhibition.

Part of the just-opened Upper East Side Salon 94 gallery space, the show celebrates the ‘radical joy’ of Saint Phalle’s colourful multi-media work. Saint Phalle was known for her utopian feminist vision and interactive outdoor public sculptures. The website does the exhibition justice with some wonderfully uplifting drawings, paintings and sculptures. Joy revolution indeed.

If you’re lucky enough to reside in New York, Studio 94 is also showing Derrick Adams’ large-scale graphic portraits alongside an exhibition of Takuro Kuwata’s ceramic sculptures, an artistic exploration of Japanese tea ceremonies.

And next year will see the opening of a café designed by bricoleur artist Tom Sachs and a shop curated by Duro Olowu. “I believe walking into a white-box space shouldn’t be a silent experience. I really do think that having a conversation, having an experience, is part of the pleasure of art,” Salon 94 founder Jeane Greenberg Rohatyn told Architectural Digest.
