Been meaning to share this here on the blog in case you missed my Instagram post for this delicious Lechon Kawali Air Fryer recipe! Lechon Kawali is a Filipino favorite that’s basically a pork belly that’s pan fried to a delicious crispy pork dish! It’s super simple but I promise, so good! Us Filipinos usually serve it over white rice.
But I’ve tried it with mashed potatoes too. You can also pair it with a vegetable stir-fry, mashed cauliflower or salad! And if you find yourself at an Asian store, look for the Mang Tomas lechon sauce in the sauces/ketchup aisle, because it makes all the difference! Enjoy!

Equipment
- Pressure Cooker
- Air Fryer
Ingredients
- 2-2.5 lbs Pork Belly
- 1 tbsp salt
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 2 pcs bay leaves
- 1/4 cup fish sauce alternative: soy sauce
- water to cover pork belly in pot
Instructions
- Place all ingredients in a pressure cooker and cook for about 15 minutes. If you don't have a pressure cooker, use an ordinary pot. Let boil and discard scum before lowering to medium-low heat. Boil for about an hour or until tender.
- Once the pork belly is tender, transfer it to a container/plate and let it dry up a bit.
You can pat with paper towel or strain it if air-frying and serving it right away. I find that it’s okay to just leave it to rest on a plate lined with paper towel and let dry while you preheat your air fryer. But what I like to do is to boil this the night before, transfer in a container and let it cool down before covering and storing in the fridge until I’m ready to fry and serve the next day. The liquid in the pot can be used for something else like pork stock, soup, sauce, gravy or freeze for later.
- Preheat your air fryer to 400F degrees (200-204C).
Once it reaches desired temperature, place the slab of pork belly inside. Let it cook for 10 minutes before lowering the temperature to 370F (185-187C) and cook for another 10-15 minutes or until crispy and you’re done! Serve over white rice, mashed potatoes or vegetables of your choice!
