Fall 2025 Shopping Guide, According to Ilana Torbiner

As a fashion editor, I draw inspiration and product recommendations from others in the industry, but not just anyone. Over the years, I've curated a tight list of people I follow on Instagram, TikTok, and Substack—those with distinct personal style and a "less is more" approach to fashion. They aren't swayed by micro-trends or rushing to buy the same Zara jacket everyone else has, and they don't overhaul their wardrobes every season. Instead, they focus on building a strong foundation and a thoughtful capsule wardrobe anchored in timeless pieces with the occasional fun, fresh addition to keep things current and personal.

One individual who excels in this area is Chicago-based influencer and personal stylist Ilana Torbiner. No matter the season, Torbiner's goal is clear: staying true to her personal style. "My aesthetic goal is to stay true to my personal style and incorporate all the clothes in my closet from past years while adding in some newer arrivals to keep things feeling fresh," she tells Who What Wear. Her signature look? "Laid-back with a '90s influence," she shares. "My mom worked at Barneys in the '90s, so her wardrobe from that time has played a strong role in shaping my style." Comfort is also a priority for Torbiner. "I tend to gravitate toward quality fabrics, classic shapes, and simple styles, but at the same time, I don't aspire to have a super-minimal style," she notes. For fall 2025, that balance of comfort, timelessness, and a touch of trendiness will guide her. When it comes to the smartest method for shopping for the new season without feeling overwhelmed, she advises readers to "fill the gaps in their wardrobe first and build the foundation, adding fun pieces in from there." She shares that everyone should keep their eyes on the new collections from designers such as Kallmeyer, Aflalo, and Attersee. If it's not clear by now, Torbiner has a knack for finding items that look expensive and are wearable. To explore the specific pieces Torbiner is currently excited about for fall, I asked her to curate an exclusive edit for the Who What Wear audience—you're welcome. Because she plans to fully embrace the Western fashion trend this fall (think denim, suede, fringe, boots, leather, plaid), you can expect pieces that capture that aesthetic.

This J.Crew option is low-lift and will seamlessly integrate itself into your wardrobe. Agolde Kelly Mid-Rise Straight-Leg Jeans I can't get enough of dark-wash denim for fall. The darker the better.

This pair from Agolde is super versatile. Khaite Kye Calf Hair Clutch This red calf-hair clutch is a great way to add a pop of color and some interest to a look. I love the pencil case–inspired silhouette. Reformation Veda Sutton Jacket I'm a huge fan of Reformation's leather pieces and love the vintage feel of this one.

Khaite Danielle Jean in Benson Here are my favorite jeans for fall because they work so well with boots. A belt is my favorite accessory, as it makes a look feel complete. I love the silver details and Western feel of this one. Kallmeyer Warner Blazer in Lambskin A leather jacket is my favorite part of fall, and while you can never go wrong with black, I also love the warmth and richness of camel.

Khaite Emmylou T-Shirt in Bark I already own—and love—this T-shirt in a few different colors, but the new shade feels fitting for the season. ME+EM Contrast Topstitch Short Fitted Blazer This works just as well for the office as it does for a night out. Tove Delys Cotton Poplin Shirt This is a fresh take on a button-down shirt. It's a great piece to work into your weekly outfit rotation, and I love this subtly modern shape.

Still Here Childhood in Pear Everyone needs a good pair of khaki-colored pants in their wardrobe for the days when their denim needs a break. Still Here does the best shade. Reformation Devin Faux Fur Coat Janessa Leone Joelle Sweater A textured, oversize knit like this one works great with dark denim, a good belt, and black boots. Dôen Cameron Cashmere Cardigan Dôen Damia Cashmere Vest The matching top to pair with the cardigan above.
