Women Fitness President Ms. Namita Nayyar catches up with Valentina Bìssoli – an exceptionally talented and accomplished internationally acclaimed Italian fashion model and actress. Here she talks about remarkable journey—her career launch at 17, her representation of Italian beauty at the 2019 Grammy Awards, her landmark #myconfidentbeauty campaign with Yamamay promoting unretouched natural beauty, and her advocacy for models’ rights through Law4Model.
Namita Nayyar:
You have been defined as a “visual monument” of contemporary fashion and the modern heir of iconic Italian beauties such as Monica Bellucci.
How does it feel to bring this legacy and how do you personally define the essence of “Mediterranean beauty” in today’s fashion world?
Valentina Bìssoli:
Surely it’s a great legacy and certain things change your life forever, especially for me who grew up in a provincial village and now they see me as an almost unattainable entity. There are two implications of the coin to consider… beauty certainly helped me a lot and I am grateful for how I was born, I was very lucky. The pleasing physical appearance surrounds you with superficial or insecure people who can’t wait to belittle you. It forces you to constantly defend yourself from those who see you as an object or a trophy.
It puts the pressure on you to always have to be impeccable, without the right to a day of fragility.
At the end of the day, true luck is not so much being born with a “perfect” face, but having the head and maturity so as not to be ruined by that same beauty. It’s not always easy because behind the spotlight, even for people “born lucky” the search for happiness and sincere affection is a struggle just like for everyone.
Namita Nayyar:
In an era dominated by digital filters and artificial trends, you have chosen to support 100% natural beauty. What inspired this commitment and what message does it send to an industry often criticized for promoting unattainable standards?
Valentina Bìssoli:
I am happy to be a promoter of this beauty, especially today that almost all young girls resort to the cosmetic surgeon to change the connotations. I see an impressive face approval.
I’m not against surgery if done with criteria.
But today something is getting out of hand, especially with the constant and sometimes destructive reflection of social media. Fashion has become too accessible to everyone on the other hand and many more girls feel suitable to do this job. But the reality of the facts is not like that.
