Dyson Airwrap Hair Styler Review

378

Who else has been wanting a Dyson Airwrap hair tool and has been looking for an honest review? It’s definitely one of those *wants* or *wishes* on our holiday list, but is just so expensive! I know it’s hard to justify buying a hair care tool that is in the $500s! As promised on my Instagram, here’s a video and honest review of the Dyson Airwrap Complete below.

Currently, the Dyson Airwrap comes in 3 models:

  1. Airwrap Complete
  2. Airwrap Volume + Shape
  3. Airwrap Smooth + Control

#3 have attachments for smoothing and controlling frizz. #2 includes attachments for adding volume and shape. #1 comes complete with all the attachments. Thus, it’s $50 more than the other two. In my honest opinion, it’s better to get the complete variety because if you decide to buy extra attachments later on, it’s $39 each. The only thing that’s not included in all those three models are the newer longer barrels for long hair. While I don’t have those and haven’t tried them, I feel like it will only be needed if you have really, really long hair. My hair, as shown here, is about chest length. Below is the video.

The PROs

As pointed in the video, here are the things I LOVE about the #AirwrapStyler:

  • ✔ Strong and safe blow dryer
  • ✔ Brush attachments for smoothing hair comparable to hair straightener
  • ✔ Round brush (not shown) is great for creating volume + waves
  • ✔ Barrel attachments have no clasp that can sometimes damage, break or pull on hair
  • ✔ Having barrels for opposite directions means no more awkwardness whether you’re left- or right-handed (there is also a CON about this that I’m mentioning later on)
  • ✔ Airwrap uses air to style and wrap hair to the barrel – safer and healthier for the hair
  • ✔ Fast styling – I timed how long it took me to curl my hair and it was about 10 mins from wet hair to the final look
  • ✔ Stays longer – to test it out, I didn’t wash my hair for 3 days. My hair stayed curly and wavy – EVEN when I didn’t put ANY hair product or hair spray. NADA! That’s usually impossible for me coz I have stubborn hair. Curls don’t last long on me. So I was surprised this did!

The CONs

  1. In terms of the functionality or performance, a minor detail that may (or may not) annoy you is that you have to switch barrel (curler) attachments depending on what direction of curl you’re aiming for. I’m not bothered by it because the way I curl my hair now is that I curl away from my face. So what I do is divide my hair into two sections: left and right. So on the right side of my face, the curls are going away from my face to the right. And on the left side, it’s going away from my face to the left. This means, I only change my barrel attachment once. But if you do the interchanging direction of curls throughout your hair, then it’s gonna be a pain. Yes, you can try to keep using just one barrel and just turn it over (how you’re holding the Airwrap). BUT that defeats the purpose of eliminating that awkward placement or positioning of your hands and the tool itself, whether you’re right-handed or left-handed.
  2. Now the only major drawback for me is the PRICE. Definitely one of the most expensive hair tools out there ranging from $499 to $549 at the time of publishing. But is it worth it? I’d say yes for me – but with some CONDITIONS! For the many tools it replaces? I can honestly say it replaces a hair dryer, straightener and curling iron – at least I can say that for my hair type. For a really good kind of each of those hair tools, that’s at least $300 (or more). For that luxurious looking case? The case alone, that can easily be $50 – $75 right there. For the technology behind it? For a faster way to styling your hair? For being a better, safer, healthier option to style our hair? Yes!

BUT again, it is definitely an investment piece. If you are the type who doesn’t really style your hair regularly, like you just wash and go, OR if you have a pixie cut, then it’s not for you. You might want to look into their Supersonic hair dryer instead. I received one from a Best Buy campaign when it first came out about 3-4 years ago and was blown away. It’s still my fave dryer to date. To be honest, if I bought the Dyson Supersonic myself, then I wouldn’t drop dollars on the Airwrap unless I can sell the Supersonic on say, eBay or FB Marketplace. It just doesn’t make sense to own these two hair tools because the Airwrap already has a hair dryer attachment that works exactly like the Supersonic.

If say, you recently bought another high-end hair tool that’s working out for you, then it doesn’t make sense to drop $$$ on the Dyson Airwrap now, right? If you hardly ever curl your hair, then maybe just get their straightener, the Corrale. I don’t own that though and haven’t tried. I would love to test it out next time. But if their other tools are any indication, then I’d assume it’s top notch as well. Again, with a high price tag, if you are using tools that are still good, then hold off until you are able or if your current tools need replaced.

Point is, if you have the budget or wanna treat yourself this Christmas, or if you’re in dire need of replacing your ancient – say a 14-year old dryer (that’s how old my dryer at the lakehouse was – my Dyson Supersonic dryer is in our Pittsburgh home) – and at the same time need a better curler and/or brush smoother, then I highly recommend the Airwrap.

Bonus Deal

Currently, Best Buy is offering a free $50 gift card when you purchase ANY Dyson hair care device. So I say, if you have been waiting for a DEAL on the Airwrap, RUN! They never go on sale. I’ve only seen it once last Black Friday weekend when I shared on my Instagram about the 20% off at Best Buy. Make sure you are following me there because I always share deals once I learn about them. ?? @styleanthropy
