How is it nearly that time of year again?! It seems like only yesterday we were all enjoying the summer sun. And then all of a sudden we’re preparing for winter! As the nights draw in and the thermostat plummets, it can leave us thinking about our fall and winter wardrobes.
Are you fully prepared for the colder weather? Here are five of my top tips for still rocking your own fashionable style in the cooler climates.
1. Layer it up
If you’re a regular reader of my blog, then you’ll know I love to #LiveInLayers. As soon as fall hits, I’m digging through my wardrobe to see what outfits I can layer up, before heading out into the chillier weather and hunting down pumpkin spice everything!
Layering is the perfect way to turn your outfit from spring and summer to fall and winter. See that cute dress you thought was just for summer? Add some leggings or tights, and a slouchy sweater to watch it transform. Play around with everything you have in your wardrobe to see what works with what.
You’ll soon love to #LiveInLayers like me!
2. Invest in sweater dresses
Okay, another thing I am totally obsessed with as soon as it gets colder is rocking a sweater dress. Whoever invented these fashion pieces is a total genius. You can look super stylish, while also staying toasty warm.
There is literally nothing better than a sweater dress when the weather starts to turn.
Plus, they are the perfect transitional outfit. Wear with bare legs when the leaves start turning orange, before putting on leggings or pantyhose underneath as the frost takes hold. If you don’t have a whole heap of sweater dresses in your wardrobe this winter, then you’re missing out!
3. Mix comfort and style
Summer is great and all, but sometimes the outfits can feel a little uncomfortable.
This is why the colder months are so perfect — you get to mix both comfort and style. No more having to worry about your skirt riding up as you sit down or dresses that are just a little too tight in the heat. Nope, fall and winter are seasons that are all about the comfort. Whether you’re going to rock the athleisure look that designers are all over right now or just live in those sweater dresses I was talking about, you’re almost guaranteed to be able to mix style and comfort in colder months.
4.
Shoes you can walk in!
This is so important as the weather starts to get cooler! No more tottering heels, especially if it’s going to be icy out there. Now is the time for all of the winter boots, flat shoes, and sneakers. If you really want to dress it up, then wedge or platform sneakers are a hit on the catwalk at the moment.
Give yourself a bit of height without falling all over the place in the colder weather. You can also opt for chunky-heeled boots if you want to appear taller, but can’t imagine walking around in stilettos at this time of year.
5. Don’t forget your accessories
Fall and winter are the perfect seasons to get your accessory on! You don’t need to worry about strange tan marks from necklaces or feeling too hot wearing anything extra.
Now is the time for chunky-knit scarves, statement jewelry, bobble hats, and basically any other cute accessory you can get your hands on. Think of it as an extra part of your layering journey, only with accessories instead.
Dressing for the colder weather doesn’t have to be as drab and dreary as the clouds outside. Use my top tips, and you’ll be loving your fall and winter wardrobe more than your spring and summer one! Do you have any other tips for dressing for the colder weather?
